Thank You Seward Community Foundation

This year was the first year the Seward Music & Arts Festival applied for and recieved a $5000 Grant from the Seward Community Foundation. These funds were matched by the Seward Arts Council and used for SMAF Administrative Costs. As this annual festival grows, the responsibility and amount of hours necessary to put it together increases. For the past ten years, the festival has been produced by a small committee of unique, dedicated and artistic individuals. Everyone up until now volunteered countless hours of their time to help create a wonderful event for the Seward community.

2014 Design Chosen

After many meetings and an overwhelming amount of talented artists who submitted their designs. We could not choose just one! So the main design for posters and shirts goes to Lars Olson, Additonal art work by Jeremy Stubblefield and SHS Students we will incorporate the designs into the many different aspects of the festival Fantasy Theme. We will also showcase all submissions in the Art Show and have plans to create a coloring book of past SMAF designs as well as some of the newest submissions.. Also look for a great variety of new stickers!! GOOD STUFF! Here is a sneek peek of this years main design. Start thinking about your Fantasy costume as they will be encouraged this year but not required.

2014 Press Release

The Seward Music and Arts Festival Celebrates its 11th Anniversary
The Seward Arts Council presents the 2014 Seward Music and Arts Festival with a diverse lineup of musical and dance performances including special guests, WASTELAND HOP from Denver.

The Seward Arts Council is thrilled to celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Seward Music and Arts Festival in the fall of 2014. This years theme “FANTASY” is sure to please all imaginations. (Costumes encouraged but not required). The festival will include a diverse lineup of over 20 live performances, locally made arts, crafts and food, as well as various activities for all-ages. The festival will be held September 26, 27, and 28 in Seward, Alaska at the Dale R. Lindsey Alaska Railroad Intermodal Facility - a heated, indoor venue.

Having originated in the fall of 2004, the Seward Music and Arts Festival has evolved and expanded immensely in its 11 years. Held the last weekend of each September, the festival is an anticipated celebration for both locals and visitors to conclude the busy summer season.

"It’s like planning a big party for Seward after all the summer mayhem has subsided... and all your friends are invited,” says Gail Burnard, the general director of the festival. “This being our eleventh anniversary... it's gonna be FANTASY-TASTIC!” The Seward Music and Arts Festival continues its commitment to youth involvement, education, and creative inspiration.

The Seward Arts Council promotes a family-oriented festival with children's activities and artist’s projects throughout the weekend; including the creation of a mural-in-a-day by members of the Seward Mural Society and a community art show.

The Seward Music and Arts Festival promotes Alaskan-made arts and crafts by welcoming nearly 30 vendors to operate at the festival, as well as allowing attendees the opportunity to place bids on many different goods and services donated by local businesses in a silent auction. Attendees also have access to a diverse food court, with a beer garden available for the 21+ crowd.

The 2014 Seward Music and Arts Festival will welcome both veteran and new performers to its stage. Featuring over 20 performances, we strive to maintain a diverse lineup that includes all genres of music, as well as various forms of dance, circus acts, and break dancing.

The Seward Music and Arts Festival is especially thrilled to announce that they will be welcoming Wasteland Hop from Denver to their stage. They will be headlining the event on Saturday, September 27th.
